Born in Battersea, Terry lived 94 remarkable years filled
with grit, humour and heart. He left school at 14 to help support his family,
served in the Middle East, Italy and Greece, and later became a deeply loved
part of family life. 

He loved racing, trips to the coast and a proper pub —
never anything too ‘poncy’. He’ll be remembered for feeding Tia from the table,
giving driving advice just a touch too late, and insisting on the news before
promptly falling asleep through it. 

Stubborn, funny and full of surprises right to the end,
Terry was truly one of a kind. 

She loved children, looked after them, worried about them, fed them and made sure they knew they belonged. That was just who she was. 

While working in a children’s home, she saw West Indian children being passed over by prospective adoptive and foster parents. It stayed with her. So when she had the chance to do something about it, she did. Together with Harry, she welcomed Fiona, Vivian and Stephen into the family, alongside Sally, Laurence and Liz. 

Min wasn’t one for making a fuss about herself. She could be shy, and big occasions weren’t really her thing, but she loved being surrounded by the people who mattered to her. 

As the years went on, she became Nan, and then part of another generation’s childhood too. There were cuddles, laughter, little jokes, texts, Facebook, funny faces and the odd high five. 

The lovely thing about Min is that the memories people carry of her are often the ordinary ones — sitting together, being listened to, being fussed over, being made to feel safe. 

That was her gift. 

She made people feel loved.
